Chic Fish Nails Youʻll Be Hooked On
I have to say, fish nails are the manicure trend I didn’t see coming, but I’m definitely glad they’re here! These nails feel whimsical yet bold, and the playful aesthetic of this trend is perfect for summer. And while this aesthetic has already been making waves for the past year, it’s nowhere near done. In fact, it seems to be getting more and more popular in 2026.
So, what started as a fun detail on Euro summer nails has turned into a movement all its own, with everything from trout nails to sardine accents and fishbone designs popping up everywhere in the nail world. And whether you’re new to the trend or are looking for a fresh fish nail design to recreate, it’s never a bad thing to find new inspiration.
I’ve gathered some of my favorite looks featuring fish, fish bait, oyster shells, and fish bones, and have featured them below. So, whether you’re planning to wear these on your next summer vacation or you just want to liven up your everyday summer looks, the fish nails below are sure to inspire you!
1. Trout Nails
(@uniqnailbartulsa, @thecolornook, @erinnailarts)
Trout nails are a must-try for anyone who wants to capture the vibrant, speckled aesthetic of this freshwater fish.
I’m obsessed with the colors of this nail trend, which leans into the gorgeous natural patterns and hues found on trout. From earthy greens and browns to silvery-blues, yellow, and pink, there’s a lot of room to play around with this one. Trout nails also feature the distinctive pattern of these creatures, from speckles to dots and thick stripes. And a splash of a shimmering topcoat is the perfect finishing touch!
Eman, whose design is featured in the center, has a more neutral finish on her mani, making it perfect for someone who wants something understated and subtle. Meanwhile, the design on the left showcases a variety of bright hues for a bolder finish. And for the girly who wants to display those gorgeous trout tones without the obvious fish design, the look on the right is definitely the one for you!
2. Sardine Nails
(@nailsbykarie, @sublime_nailstudio, @sincloranails)
Sardine nails focus on long, slender, silvery fish. These designs are a little more sleek and sophisticated than other fish nails, but still feature the playful edge we all know and love.
Nail artist Hang Nguyen spoke with editors at Vogue and noted that “nail art tools such as magnetic polish and chrome have made it easy to replicate the iridescent shiny scales for a realistic finish,“ so definitely don’t sleep on adding a metallic topcoat to your sardine nails. As for colors, lean toward classic silver, deep blue, or even a splash of sea green.
Karie (on the left) has gone for a simple and straightforward sardine nail design, while Elle (on the right) has focused on creating a bolder look. However, you can always meet in the middle by recreating the mani in the middle, using a long, slim fish silhouette with a pop of color and shine.
3. Fishermancore Nails
(@thecolornook, @thatglosssauce, @everynails_)
Fishermancore nails draw inspiration from daring, colorful Italian summer nails, but this trend puts emphasis on all things fisherman-related. So, not only are we seeing plenty of fish nail art and colors here, but we’re also seeing anchors, ocean art, seashells, starfish, shrimp, and more!
As the experts at Byrdie say, “If you’re looking for a funky summer feel, this one’s for you.“ I love that you can customize this design to create something one-of-a-kind, and use anything from nail art to stickers and embellishments to achieve the look. Sierra, whose design is front and center above, used metallic nail stickers for her look, while Eman hand-painted fish details on each nail. Eve, whose nails are shown on the right, has leaned into a collage-style look, combining both cat-eye and chrome for a cute, eye-catching finish.
No matter how you choose to create your fishermancore nails, you’re sure to have something fun and refreshing for summer.
4. Fish Bait Nails
(@daily_charme, @nailsby.hays, @norush.nailart)
The alluring appeal of fishing lures, worms, and other fish bait creates a striking mani perfect for summertime!
For this aesthetic, anything from neon colors to saturated summer hues and softer pastel tones will work, and you definitely want to add some kind of shimmer. Chrome colors, cat-eye topcoats, and glittery polish add an eye-catching finish to these nails, which perfectly mimic the eye-catching design of fish bait.
Like the fishermancore nails, you can use a combination of nail stickers, art, and 3D elements to turn your nails into vibrant fish bait-inspired beauties. I love the middle nail design by Haley; the dainty fish art with textured tails is so cute and perfect for this trend. The other nail designs featured here focus more on fish head designs for a vivid and playful mani with an energetic finish.
5. Fish Bone Nails
(@unblunt___, @nailsfoundinthewild, @izzy_handinhand)
Next, fish bone nails are another fish nail trend to try in 2026. With the focus on fish skeletons and bone details, this look feels subtly whimsical yet edgy.
I personally love fish bone nail art when paired with other details. The designs featured on the left and right both pair fish bones with other nail art, allowing the skeletons to add a playful feel without being the main focus.
However, this art looks just as amazing when it’s the only art, and I love how the design in the center pairs simple, white fish bones with bright, contrasting summer colors. For a simpler design, use timeless neutrals like black, white, and grey. But don’t be afraid to give this look a modern upgrade by adding classic ocean-inspired metallics (like silver and blue), cat-eye, or a holographic topcoat.
6. Oyster Nails
(@nails_by_annabel_m, @byrdiedoesnails, @sansungnails)
Finally, the last fish nail idea on my list is none other than oyster nails! Oysters might seem like an unexpected choice, but the sleek, chic, silver-blue tones are perfect for an elevated, playful summer manicure.
I’m obsessed with the design on the right by San Sung Kim. The beaded detailing is so incredible, and the subtle 3D effect works so well for an oyster nail design. You can also use classic 3D gel for nail art, like Annabel did on the left, creating a bolder finish that’s ideal for beach days and casual summer gatherings. I love how she paired her oyster designs with pearly accents, starfish, and bubble detailing for a collage-style look while keeping the palette classy and neutral.
However, you can always keep it sweet and simple for summer with dainty oyster nail art (similar to the design in the middle), featuring layers of silver, pearly white, and ocean blue nail polish to get that textured oyster look. Really, there’s no wrong way to add this adorable ocean-inspired nail art to your summer mani!
Whether you prefer bold and colorful fishermancore nails, simple sardine nails, or edgy and playful fish bone nails, the manicure ideas above will definitely add allure and style to your summer 2026 looks!
