1. Casual Denim
Denim is perfect for a comfortable, laid-back vibe in family photos. Scroll down to see my favorite casual denim looks for the whole family!
Relaxed in Denim Bottoms

One thing I love about using denim in your family photo outfits is how easy it is to coordinate, since everyone has a pair of blue jeans!
The simple palette and rugged denim here are the unifying elements, but I love how there’s some variety between the tops to showcase individual style and charm. The mix of plaid, gingham, beige knits, and ivory blouses and button-ups gives these outfits an effortless feel while keeping it all cohesive.
Of course, while blue jeans are classic, you don’t have to choose only blue denim. Black or white denim pants and pieces are just as classic and timeless, so consider swapping your blue pieces for a neutral one instead.
Ivory + Light Blue Denim

Denim family photo outfits aren’t all just blue jeans! While denim pants and shorts are easy to wear, you can also reach for a denim dress for any girls you have or for yourself. I love the light blue here; it feels soft and elevated and works well with the ivory pieces.
Other unexpected pieces of denim to include are a blue jean jacket, a denim vest, overalls for little ones, a denim skirt, or a denim overshirt.
Double Denim & Overalls

This family went all in on denim here with double denim outfits for mom and dad and a cute overall look for the little one.
I love how she and her partner are wearing different shades of blue in their own monochromatic denim outfits that complement yet contrast with each other. The pops of white elements, the gold jewelry on mom, and the satin bow in the daughters’ hair are small details that elevate these all-denim looks.
2. Florals + Pastels
For a soft and whimsical aesthetic, pastel tones and floral patterns are a must. Check out the summer family photo outfits below to get inspired and find a look that will work for your family!
Whimsical Pieces

Puffed sleeves, patchwork dresses, and floral prints are perfect for the summer season. I love the combination of patterned dresses with ivory ones, and both designs help this family stand out against the pops of lavender and the forest green background.
To recreate a look like this, choose a simple color scheme featuring three or four colors and pair them with white pieces for a balanced look. This will help prevent the outfits from looking overly busy and create a more cohesive finish.
Butter Yellow & Sunflowers

Butter yellow is definitely a trending color, but it still feels soft and timeless enough for family photos. This is another element that works well in summer, and this hue paired with a sunflower-printed dress couldn’t be a better duo!
I love the floral dress on Mom and how it stands out against the yellow and beige outfits. However, you can add more floral-printed pieces to your family’s outfits if you prefer. Alternatively, you can add pops of yellow gingham or stripes to add different patterns that work well together.
Pastels, Lace +Florals

Soft, earthy green and pastel pink is one of my favorite summer color combinations, and I love how the pattern along mom’s dress features both tones and ties all the outfits together.
While this look works perfectly for a smaller family, it can still be done with larger families by being intentional about the pops of colors and patterns you add to each look.
3. Coordinated Neutrals
You can’t go wrong with neutrals for summer family photo outfits. Whether you prefer light and airy whites, taupe tones, and sandy beiges, or darker neutrals like ebony and cocoa, the outfit ideas below will work with your preferred palette.
Beige Knits & Ivory Linen

Comfy knits and breathable linen pieces are perfect for a coastal setting, and I love the added texture from the mom’s lace skirt above! With such a simple color scheme, you can use any combination of fabrics and materials, and the outfits will still look intentional and effortlessly elegant.
This color scheme is soft and serene and will ensure your family photos look classy and timeless year after year.
Monochromatic Neutrals

Whether you want to stand out against a beachy background or a field of flowers, an all-black outfit is sure to do the trick! I love a fully monochromatic moment, and it’s ideal for a perfectly unified and sophisticated look. I also love how these outfits feel so bold and unexpected for a summer photoshoot, but the simple, sleek silhouettes really elevate the aesthetic here.
Of course, in some climates, black pieces may be too hot, but if you’re taking pictures at the beach, the coastal breeze should help to keep you cool! And as always, reach for pieces made of breathable materials like cotton and linen, or even airy tulle and chiffon, for a more playful look (like on the daughters’ dress).
Patterned + Textured Neutrals

For neutral summer family photo outfits that still feel fun and look visually interesting, include a variety of textures and patterns. Knit pieces are great for a breezy coastal setting, but don’t forget to include other textures like lace, crochet, embroidery, eyelet details, or anything with a gauzy finish.
As far as patterns, my tired-and-true prints include stripes, gingham, polka dots, and florals. These look great, even when mixed and matched, and they always look timeless. However, you can also go for a checkerboard print for retro flair or even paisley for a boho vibe.
4. Playful Elements
For the families who want to showcase their fun-loving nature, adding playful elements is an excellent way to do so. Below, I’ll cover some of my favorite ways to add a playful, whimsical feel to your outfits while maintaining a refined, cohesive look.
Sporty Stripes, Gingham & Checkers

This family has nailed the fun, sporty, laid-back vibe for their family photos. The combo of different prints with sporty shoes, graphic tees, baseball caps, and jersey shirts creates an obvious athletic aesthetic that encapsulates the playful energy of the summer season and the family’s own personal interests and style!
And to take it to the next level, the tennis court setting is the cherry on top. So, if you and your family spend all summer at the playground, at skate parks, and in soccer fields, you can create that same vibe in your photos to capture those sweet summer memories!
Crocheted Details

You can create a gorgeous, playful aesthetic without bright colors, if you prefer. The outfits above have a fun boho vibe, and are another great choice if you want to create an aesthetic that encapsulates a summertime feel.
For a look like this, combine simple crochet pieces, patterned crochet, patterned linen pieces, and embroidered tops or bottoms. I also adore the colors here; ivory and cream tones with soft beige and tan elements feel bright yet warm and summery.
Bright Colors + Accessories

While plenty of patterns and textures are always good for a fun vibe, you can create something vibrant and playful by focusing on bright colors. The crochet dress and striped, embroidered two-piece set make a strong statement, while the colorful elements on the rest of the family members add balance and maintain a playful aesthetic.
The bright hair clips and sunglasses each girl has are another excellent addition. I love how only the children are wearing certain colors and accessories, and they’re perfect for giving these indoor photos an obvious summer feel.
5. Coastal Color Combos
Last but not least, coastal color combos are always a good choice for summer. This is a perfect color scheme for a beach setting, but you can wear it anywhere!
Dusty Blue & Porcelain Tones

The deep, dusty blue is gorgeous here, and it looks fantastic with crisp white. I love these two colors contrasted against the sandy shore, and the blue is dark enough to stand out against the waves, too.
Just like with the neutral outfits, feel free to play around with textures here. Cotton knits, linen trousers, and sleek silk are elegant and timeless, and add dimension to this limited color scheme.
Sandy Hues + Shades of Blue

For a more complex coastal-inspired palette, add shades of brown into the mix!
Light, medium, and dark denim will all work here, along with varying shades of brown and beige, while white serves as the unifying color across all the outfits. I love how the baby’s sweater matches the father’s pants, and you can use this matching design for larger families or simply allow a wider range of tones.
Soft Coastal Palette

Very soft beige tones, pops of cream, and pastel blue work together to create a light, airy coastal feel. For this look, any light wash denim, pale blue florals or stripes, and barely-there sand tones are the way to go.
I love this for a clear, beachy vibe that’s not too loud and still timeless enough to look classy even as trends change.
Whether you’re planning indoor summer family photos, an outdoor photoshoot at the beach, or a fun photo session in a field of blooms, the summer family outfit ideas above will help you and your family look put-together and polished in summer 2026!
