Mastering The Baggy Jeans Look

It’s official. Baggy jeans are the coolest (and most comfortable) denim trend we’re wearing in 2024. Their looser silhouette has a relaxed, vintage-inspired vibe that makes any outfit look effortlessly cool – and doesn’t squish your intestines when you sit down – bonus!

Baggy jeans are surprisingly versatile, meaning you can dress them up for formal occasions or stick to a casual aesthetic for every day. The styling options are truly endless. Despite their versatility, this oversized shape can be intimidating to style if you’re used to straighter, tighter-fitting jeans.

No worries! That’s why I’ve sourced the best baggy jeans outfit inspo from my favorite fashion it-girls (and my own closet) so you can get ideas on how to wear this trendy denim style. Keep scrolling for ways to wear baggy jeans — all of which are chic, stylish, and never frumpy.

Chic Baggy Jeans Outfit Ideas

Whether you’re wondering how to style slouchy jeans or need some new outfit inspo, you’ll love this list of chic baggy jeans outfits.

Baggy cargos, sweater + ballet flats.

@aimeesong

Baggy cargo jeans are so on trend for 2024. This street-style staple has a loose, relaxed fit that is fashionable and functional (look at all those pockets!).

I love how Aimee styled her baggy cargo jeans with a plush cream knit and pink satin ballet flats. The girly shoes perfectly balance the more masculine jeans, in my opinion. This is the perfect weekend outfit for running errands, seeing friends, or picking up flowers from your local market.

With elevated basics.

Lean into the vintage vibes with this ‘90s-inspired outfit.

Here, Anouk styled loose-fit jeans with a knit long-sleeve top, nude kitten heels, and a long coat from The Frankie Shop. An oversized tote bag, chic sunnies, and a thin brown belt tie everything together.

The outfit styling is quite simple, but because all the pieces have a minimal “old money” vibe, the overall look feels elevated and sophisticated. Proof that baggy jeans outfits are fab, not drab!

Barrel jeans, cashmere knit + sneakers.

Christal wearing baggy ankle jeans, sneakers and a grey sweater.

One of my favorite baggy styles to wear is barrel-leg jeans, which fit loosely through the thigh and have a curved seam that ends just above the ankle. An easy way to style these baggy jeans is with your fave cozy knit or sweatshirt—I’ve opted for this Lilysilk gray brushed cashmere sweater.

I do a slight front tuck to define my waist, then accessorize with my Adidas sneakers and a cute shoulder bag.

All-white with black accessories.

@anoukyve

Elevate your look with off-white loose-fit denim and a plain white tee. This monochrome combo is bright and airy for spring, but you can make it more dramatic with a leather jacket and black accessories.

You can never go wrong with a black and white outfit, in my opinion. It’s forever chic! Keep the whole look neutral or add a pop of color with your accessories, like this stunning tote bag Anouk has from The Row.

Cuffed jeans, vest top + sandals.

For an on-trend baggy jeans outfit you’ll want to wear all spring and summer, try this next look.

Baggy jeans get an instant upgrade when you pair them with tailored pieces, like this linen-blend suit vest top that happens to be another one of my favorite 2024 trends. Vest tops come in a ton of different materials and styles, from luxe linen versions to tailored waistcoats. Luckily, they all pair perfectly with baggy jeans!

Styling-wise, I’d throw on my everyday gold jewelry, a shoulder bag, strappy sandals, and my Celine sunnies to tie it all together.

Styling tip: If your jeans are too long, cuff them! Or try cuffed styles like these Ayla Jeans I’m wearing

With earth tones.

@emswells

You don’t need to overcomplicate a baggy jeans outfit. The best looks are often sleek and simple, like this inspo from Emily. She’s styled her Citizens of Humanity jeans (uncuffed) with a green long-sleeve top, strappy heels, and a slouchy suede bag. Natural earth tones provide a fresh take on an otherwise basic look!

I would wear this outfit to a winery or for dinner and drinks with friends. But you could make it more suitable for the daytime by swapping the heels for ballet flats or sandals.

Go for an all-black outfit.

An all-black outfit is a formula that never fails. Make this look more statement with balloon/horseshoe jeans—a baggy silhouette we’ll be seeing everywhere this year, according to British Vogue. Just like barrel jeans, this style is more sculptural than your average pair of denim, so it can easily be dressed up or down!

The elements here are pretty simple: I’ve gone for a knit tank, Agolde Luna jeans, and mesh ballet flats, which I think look chic peeking out from under the jeans. Balloon-cut denim and heels are also a match made in fashion heaven, so you could easily swap the flats for kitten heels or sling-back pumps.

Cozy layers + loafers.

@iamcharlotteolivia

On chilly days, pair your baggy jeans with a cute sweater and layers to stay warm and fashionable. Don’t overthink it! Your favorite sweatshirt layered with a tee shirt is plenty cool for an everyday outfit. Accessorize with a beanie, shoulder bag, and stylish sunnies.

If you’ve ever heard of the ‘wrong shoe’ theory, then you know why loafers work so perfectly here! Chunky loafers add a preppy, tailored element to these casual cuffed jeans and sweatshirt that makes the overall look feel interesting yet effortless.

Light wash jeans, trench coat + sneakers.

@monikh

You can always count on Monikh for baggy jeans outfit inspo. I love this look for spring and fall days when you need light layers. Here’s how to get the look yourself:

Start with a pair of vintage or vintage-inspired baggy jeans. Light wash denim has a casual vibe that is perfect for this off-duty aesthetic. Next, add a cozy sweater. This emerald green knit is gorgeous, but any neutral or pop of color will do. Throw on a trench coat and a trusty pair of sneakers, and you’re ready for the day ahead!

Barrel jeans, tank top + mesh flats.

This next baggy jeans outfit is a fun twist on everyday basics.

Dress up your daily uniform of jeans and a tee shirt by opting for a pair of baggy denim in an interesting shape. A knit tank, like this Mango one, feels more elevated than a simple tee. Tuck your tank top into your baggy denim for a streamlined look, then accessorize with a western-inspired leather belt and trendy mesh ballet flats.

Baggy jeans, sweater + Birkenstocks.

@emswells

I love this next baggy jeans outfit for a crisp fall day when you want to be casual yet cute.

Black baggy jeans tend to be more polished and sophisticated, but this faded pair is perfect for every day. Take inspiration from Emily and pair your relaxed denim with a cozy sweater and Birkenstock Boston Clogs. Can’t forget a crossbody bag and your go-to sunglasses!

Baggy on baggy.

@orlaithmelia_

For a successful baggy jeans outfit, you’ve got to think about proportions. And no—just because you’re wearing something baggy on the bottom doesn’t mean you have to wear something tight on top! Experiment with the ‘everything oversized’ trend by wearing an oversized top with baggy jeans.

The key here is choosing a top that’s designed to have an oversized fit since the proportions will be most flattering. Loose-fitting straight or wide-leg jeans perfectly complement an oversized striped sweater. Chic accessories (like sleek flats and a small handbag) ensure the look feels intentionally slouchy and gives off cool girl energy.

Button-down shirt, tote bag + sandals.

Christal wearing baggy jeans, black sandals and a linen button down.

Baggy jeans and a button-down shirt are a dreamy combo.

You can go more tailored with a crisp white shirt or airy and boho with a loose striped linen shirt like I’ve worn here. I’ve left most of the shirt unbuttoned and styled it alongside my oversized Anine Bing tote bag (here’s a great affordable alternative) and chunky sandals for a chill, beachy vibe. For a more preppy aesthetic, try a mini bag and loafers instead.

Strapless top + wide-leg jeans.

@orlaithmelia_

I love this baggy jeans outfit for spring and summer! One great thing about baggy jeans is that they’re loose and airy (compared to straighter styles), so you can reach for them on warm spring and summer days with a sweet top and sandals for an easy everyday ‘fit.

I’ll be wearing this look on repeat this season. The pairing of a tube top with super baggy jeans is so flattering on all body shapes and sizes! Complete with your go-to sandals, jewelry, and purse for a look that feels effortless.

Baggy jeans, knit tank + flip-flops.

Christal wearing jeans, black sandals and a white crochet tank top.

What better way to style baggy jeans for summer than with a knit tank and flip-flops? This casual look has a Y2K flair that is cool-girl approved.

The best part is that this outfit is super easy to recreate with pieces you already have in your wardrobe. I think this baggy jeans look is perfect for any summer plans, whether that’s a lunch date, running errands, or spending a relaxing afternoon with friends and family.

Cardigan + mary jane flats.

@smythsisters

On days when you want to be comfy but put-together, baggy jeans are the perfect alternative to leggings or sweatpants. Since they’re roomy throughout the hips and legs, baggy jeans can be super comfortable and a great solution for work-from-home!

A cardigan looks so effortlessly cool with baggy jeans. Plus, it’s comfy too! This black cardi is oh-so-chic, but you could also brighten up this look with a colorful cardigan. When it comes to shoes, flats will always look fabulous. Whether you like ballet flats or mary janes, this feminine shoe style perfectly complements oversized denim.

Business casual vibes.

@wendyswan

Go for a business casual look by pairing oversized high-waisted jeans with a crisp white button-down and pointed-toe heels.

The secret to getting this look is throwing on a pair of super baggy jeans that are a size or two too big and adding a belt. This helps cinch your waist and give your outfit a vintage feel that is so ‘90s — I love it! Simple jewelry, a chic bag, and oval sunglasses are the finishing touches.
