I’m back again with the next round-up of nail trends for the upcoming season. After doing a little digging and seeing what the fashion experts have predicted, I’ve narrowed it down to the winter trend ideas below.
While minimalism, clean girl, and old money aesthetics were the styles everyone wanted to wear in 2025 and early 2026, we’re starting to see a shift back towards more playful, experimental, and maximalist styles. However, if you’re someone who adores everything quiet luxury and minimal, don’t click away yet. The winter nail trends ahead feature charming patterns and aesthetics with a twist, blending the effortless sophistication of refined styles with these avant-garde designs.
So, whether you’re new to the nail trend game or you’re a master of chic manicures, explore the winter nail ideas ahead to get inspired and prepare for a fashionable cold-weather season.

1. Wild Child

Go wild with animal print nails this season, leaning into modern variations of a tried-and-true nail staple.
While we’ve seen bold cheetah print and zebra stripe accents in the past, this winter animal print will be a little tamer in 2026. The Wed magazine noted that this print will be refined and intentional, with softer accents and barely-there elements rather than big, bold ones. Experts at The Wed also noted that neutral palettes are the way to go, saying “Brown, cream, caramel, and muted black make the patterns feel sophisticated rather than loud.“
As an extension of the Aspen Glamour winter fashion trend we’re seeing this year, Dalmatian and doe patterns are a top pick for animal-print manicures. I love the combination of dainty Dalmatian accents and solid Dalmatian print on Destiny’s manicure, while @cosmicnails.clt paired dusty blue and gold with spotted fawn detailing for a subtle glam style.
2. Mismatched Muse

This winter, mismatched nails are preferred over monochromatic manicures.
Another trend spotted by Xenia Lar at The Wed, mismatched muse is all about pairing thoughtfully chosen colors together for a visually dynamic yet refined design. However, this trend doesn’t include just any color. It’s all about muted tones that effortlessly complement one another. Xenia noted, “The trick is keeping the palette restrained so the differences feel intentional rather than random.“
Eman (to the left) took a soft approach, choosing pastel tones that can freshen up a wintry outfit without overtaking it. Citre (featured center) went for a more daring look, mixing more saturated hues with jewel tones and pops of silver. Of course, you can always meet in the middle and recreate Oksana’s design with a combination of earthy colors, pale pink, and buttery yellow.
3. Experimental Chrome

Next on my list of winter nail trends is another pick that’s all about experimentation.
Scratch magazine said “Chrome is back in a big way this season,“ while experts at The Wed note that “Metallic nails are moving beyond the occasional chrome moment and into more sculptural territory.“
Solid gold nails and silver French tips are classic and effortlessly chic, but if you want to step into trend-setting territory, choose 3D detailing for your metallic manicures. Silk Beauty opted for molten waves that feel both elegant and avant-garde. Diana, on the other hand, gave her cat-eye mani a molten border for a bolder look. Liv’s design pairs cool silver chrome with adorable polka dots for something playful yet timeless.
4. Cat Eye in Brown

Cat-eye nails are already on everyone’s radar, but for winter, pair this velvety, metallic design with rich, earthy brown nail polish.
Recently spotted on the hands of one of our favorite fashionable celebrities, Vanessa Hudgens, this design is perfect for an effortless rich girl look. Nail artist Zola Ganzorigt created Hudgens’ nails, “describing the style as a ‘moonstone mani’,” according to Scratch magazine.
Brown cat-eye nails are warm and cozy, with just enough texture for an alluring finish. Plus, they easily pair with just about any accent or embellishment. House of Orange salon added carefully placed ivory dots for a vintage finish, and NailsByLes doubled up on trends by giving brown cat-eye nails a Baccarat glass texture. But you can’t go wrong by keeping this design as-is (like Sarah did) for something simple, seasonal, and sophisticated.
5. Winter Stripes

Allure has all the details on my next nail trend. Loren Savini, a former editor for Allure, wrote that “The entirety of 2025 belonged to the polka dot. For 2026, a different design has, well, earned its stripes.“
Winter stripes are coming in hot for chic cold weather looks, and I’m all for it. With a simple, straightforward print like stripes, you can play with the pattern and make it work for your specific aesthetic.
The thick, colorful stripes running down the middle mani will pair nicely with a chunky sweater and burgundy accents for a feisty winter look. Khanya created something equally eye-catching but featuring a pared-down palette that works well with traditional fall tones. However, simple stripes can be elevated with cat-eye textures (looking at you @_h.collective), chrome accents, and trendy winter nail colors.
6. Frenchie Glamour

There’s always room to add a little Parisian flair to your manicure, no matter the season. And in winter of 2026/2027, the classic French tip is getting a glamorous upgrade.
Sofi Mazur, nail artist and international nail educator, spoke to Allure about this trend, saying, “It’s like jewelry for your nails.“ Shimmering nail polish, delicate gold detailing, and crystal embellishments are all perfect for adding a luxe look to your mani. And you can go heavy on the glitz and glam or keep it simple and refined.
Both @nailsxmary_ and @maniqueuk added a glamorous touch, one with a pearly polish and the other with silver glitter, showcasing how you can add just a splash of sparkle or an abundance.
7. Plaid + Tartan

Plaid and tartan are classic winter patterns, and they’re having a serious moment this season.
Coveteur spotted “check prints, tartan, and gingham […] in countless collections” during NYFW, signaling a “very check-forward season once the temperature drops.“ Julie Kandalec, a celebrity manicurist, also told editors at Who What Wear that we can expect plaid to “stick around for a while” while discussing the top nail trends for this year. So not only will we see these patterns show up in the winter wardrobes of celebrities and influencers, but they’ll be on their nails too!
Traditional cool-weather tones and rich neutrals are perfect for a quintessential winter mani, though you can add brighter shades if you prefer an eye-catching look. Gem details and cat-eye (seen in the designs by @arti_nails_nl and @expressbymarcelle, respectively) can also give this timeless pattern a modern finish.
8. Gothic Romance

For the girls who love moody palettes and romantic details, this one is for you!
Gothic Romance is another trend that’s making its way from the runway to the salon. Coveteur reported on this aesthetic, noting that “The collections [at the Fall/Winter 2026 fashion shows] explored dark romance.“ Ella O’Keeffe, an author at Coveteur, specifically mentioned designers Alexander McQueen and Ann Demeulemeester as leaders of this trend.
Moody colors, lace, and dramatic layers were the defining details of this aesthetic, and these elements easily carry over into manicures. Amani went all in with a black lace design, balanced out with dainty pearl accents. The other designs lean into asymmetrical lines, layered elements, traditional goth motifs, and dark, moody palettes that effortlessly create a romantic, gothic aesthetic.
