As the season shifts, so do our wardrobes! After a summer spent in the sun wearing breezy outfits and lots of linen, we’re welcoming the weather cool down. In my opinion, fall ignites the very best in fashion with chunky knitwear, cozy textures, and chic shoes. The layering options are endless! In addition to classic fall staples, spicing up your fall outfits with some of the latest it-pieces makes getting dressed much more exciting. 

If you’re wondering what the hottest fall fashion trends for women are, you’re in luck! I’ve scoured the internet for the biggest fashion trends you’re sure to see this fall. From leopard print to glossy leather and billowy skirts, this list has a trend for everyone.

1. (Faux) Fur For Fall

In keeping with the Mob Wife aesthetic we saw earlier this year, it’s no surprise to see faux fur on this list! Soft, fluffy faux fur coats made their way down the runway and into our hearts with their over-the-top vibe and cozy silhouette. According to W Magazine, brown furs were especially popular, adding a touch of ‘60s-era glamor to casual, sporty outfits. While Marie Claire spotted all types of innovative styles, colors, and silhouettes dominating the fall 2024 runways.

We love that the fashion industry is moving away from real fur and opting for realistic-looking faux furs instead. You can find so many amazing (and affordable) faux fur pieces that look just as luxe on sites like Revolve and Zara. 

Faux fur coats make any fall outfit a 10 out of 10, so you don’t need to try too hard! Wear a cropped faux fur jacket with tailored trousers or pencil skirts to elevate your workwear wardrobe, or pair a floor-length version with a simple tee shirt and jeans outfit for a well-balanced look. 

2. Plaid Prints

This fall fashion trend should come as no surprise! Plaid is a staple autumnal print we pull out season after season. But instead of the fall flannels you’re sick of seeing, incorporate plaid into your wardrobe in new and exciting ways. 

According to W Magazine, long plaid coats, maxi skirts, and Chanel-esc co-ords have been spotted all over the runway. The print has a ‘90s grunge vibe that looks so cool with leather boots, an oversized knit, and vintage-inspired accessories, a la fashion influencer Nastia.

If your style is more classic, opt for a plaid blazer instead! You can’t go wrong with this versatile piece. Dress it up with a denim skirt and chic accessories, like I did here, or pair it with jeans and a graphic tee for an everyday look. Likewise, a plaid coat has a similar chic vibe but offers even more warmth for crisp fall days.

3. Love for Leopard

Love it or hate it – we’re on team love! – leopard print has been making a strong comeback this year. We saw it make headlines all spring and summer, but this classic pattern has been running wild on the fall 2024 runways, according to W Magazine. 

So many great brands like Mango and Sézane are doing affordable, obsession-worthy leopard pieces for your closet. If you’re intimidated by this fall trend (I totally get it), start small! I recommend trying a leopard print midi skirt or printed jeans. These easy-to-wear bottoms can be dressed up or down with staple pieces like knit cardigans and classy blazers. I think neutral tops and accessories work best for this trend since they allow the leopard print to be the star of the show. 

If even that seems like too much, try a leopard print bag or shoes. Feeling bold? A leopard print coat looks so chic!

4. Lingerie Dressing

This next fall fashion trend is the perfect mix of sweet and sexy. Numéro spotted lingerie-inspired pieces on the runway, specifically noting “alluring silk and lace silhouettes largely feature camisoles, bloomers and babydolls.” Wearing lingerie as outerwear has been an emerging trend for the past few years but has become even more popular this season!

If you want to dip your toe into the trend, corsets are a great place to start. This coquette-style top is flattering on any body type and looks so cool with baggy jeans and an oversized jacket. 

Lace and sheer skirts are another fave. You can mix this stylish piece with an oversized tee shirt, jacket, and moto boots like Daria did for a fashion-forward fall ‘fit perfect for shopping or hanging with the girls. For a more modest look, I recommend choosing a silk or satin midi skirt instead. You still get that slinky lingerie vibe, but with much more coverage. 

Anything satin – camisoles, trousers, pajama sets, and dresses – will be everywhere this fall. This luxurious-looking material is light and feminine, offering the perfect contrast to masculine leather and soft knits. I love layering a satin skirt or dress with a slouchy knit and boots in the fall for an easy but classy look.

5. Full Skirts

Another skirt style to welcome into your fall 2024 wardrobe is the full skirt. This fashion trend, according to Harper’s Bazaar, is making a return to the runways (and our closets!). Airy maxi and midis are hitting the floor this year (no pun intended) with women everywhere swapping their jeans and trousers for a voluminous skirt. The bigger, the better here!

I love this trend because you can transition flowy skirts you wore all spring and summer into fall with a knit tank or chunky cardigan and, of course, some Mary Jane flats. For a laid-back but still polished look, wear a full maxi skirt with colorful Adidas sneakers, a slouchy sweatshirt, and a baseball cap. It’s such a cute and comfy way to switch up your everyday uniform and feel put-together. 

Prefer a shorter hem? A bubble mini skirt is another similar fall trend I’m obsessed with! 

6. It-Girl Leather

Leather might not be the most surprising trend on this list, but it is the most classic. If you’re building out your fall capsule wardrobe and want to invest in timeless pieces you can wear again and again, make it a leather jacket. 

Leather jackets are the perfect throw-on-and-go piece you can wear once the temperatures dip that makes your outfit look instantly cooler. (Fall is leather weather, after all!) And they just so happen to be the “It” jacket this season, according to a Harper’s Bazaar trend report.  

Leather jackets come in so many different styles and silhouettes, so finding your ideal fit is a personal experience. For example, a polished biker jacket has a cropped, minimal fit that looks great thrown on over a cute dress. While a relaxed bomber jacket is the perfect addition to a tee shirt and jeans. Black leather is classic, but dark browns and reds are also trending!

Whatever your style, the key is to find a jacket you’ll love year after year. Quince and Mango both make some incredible leather jackets, so I’d recommend shopping there first!

7. Crop-it Trench

A trench coat will forever be one of my closet staples. The lightweight, waterproof jacket wears perfectly over my thick knits and sweater dresses, keeping me cozy and chic even on the chilliest autumn days. We’re opting for cropped trench styles over floor-sweeping versions to switch things up this fall. While I love both styles, the cropped silhouette does have a more flattering cut and casual feel than the iconic trench!

According to Refinery29, this fall fashion trend is going to be huge. The best part? It’s so easy to nail. Shops like Zara, H&M, and Mango have a great selection of classy cropped trenches at reasonable price points. These trenches also tend to come in various neutral shades like cream and taupe, which mix and match with virtually everything in your wardrobe. 

Take inspo from the fall outfit ideas above! You can pair your cropped trench coat with baggy jeans and a thick turtleneck for a warm and effortless look. Or throw it on over trousers and a button-down for a timeless ‘fit that looks just as good at the office as it does at dinner and drinks.
