An Effortless Spring Capsule Wardrobe
Spring is just around the corner and it’s a perfect time to curate your effortless spring capsule wardrobe. If you are a fan of minimal, neutral style, and want to streamline your wardrobe so that you can reduce stress, time getting dressed, and save some moola – this capsule will be a perfect guide for you.
The weather this time of year can be quite varied depending on where you live, so a thoughtful spring capsule needs to contain items that can be worn on cooler, rainy days, or warm, sunny days that bring in that summer vibe.
How Many Items Are In A Spring Capsule Wardrobe?
There is no specific number for how many pieces need to be in your capsule, but rather each piece should be versatile, able to be worn multiple times a week, and good quality. My capsule contains 15 pieces of clothing, 4 four pairs of shoes, two bags, and other accessories.
Your capsule might need to be larger depending on your lifestyle, or it might be smaller too. The key is including neutral staples that can be layered, and having the right footwear.
A nice selection of accessories to choose from is good so you can elevate your overall look. This way you’ll feel stylish and sophisticated even for a grocery run or school pickup.

What Should Be in a Spring Capsule Wardrobe?
I’m a mom of two little ones, but I also like to feel put together when I go out, so creating polished looks needs to feel effortless (I literally have minutes to get ready some days!). That’s why my spring capsule wardrobe is simple and neutral, so multiple outfit combinations can be created with ease.
Read below to understand how each piece in the capsule has been thoughtfully chosen and is perfect for spring…and get some great outfit inspiration too!

Trench Coat
A classic trench coat is a great staple for any spring capsule wardrobe. It can be dressed down with sneakers and a great pair of jeans, or dressed up with a dress and heels. Because spring can be cooler and rainy, this top layer is a sophisticated way to handle the weather and look great doing it.
Denim Jacket
Another essential layer for cooler days, a denim jacket is a perfect addition to the capsule. It can take you from day to night and you can go with a classic blue wash denim or go with black or cream. I love a slightly oversized denim jacket to elevate any look.
Leather Jacket
Just like the denim jacket, a leather jacket is a great layering option for cooler weather in spring. It also has an edgy look that can be perfectly paired with a pair of vintage wash jeans, mules, and a tank top, or throw it over a t-shirt dress and put on a pair of sneakers for something more casual.

Button Up Shirt
A crisp button-up shirt belongs in every capsule in my opinion. This lightweight and airy staple is so versatile. It can be dressed up or down and in a slightly oversized fit it can be worn over leggings for a more casual look or tucked into a pair of jeans or trousers. I prefer white, but a subtle striped pattern can be perfect for spring as well.
Knit Hoodie
On a cooler spring day a knit hoodie can keep you feeling cozy but also has an elevated look and feel. I’m a huge fan of Jenni Kayne, and you really can’t go wrong with the knit hoodie and a pair of jeans and mules. If the JK isn’t in your budget, try another one of the options below.
Black & White Tank Tops
These staple pieces can be worn multiple times a week in the spring with a layer over top (knit hoodie, sweater, denim jacket), or on their own if the weather is warm. The classic, polished look of a simple black or white tank can be elevated even more with layered dainty pendant necklaces.
Striped Sweater
There’s something about breton or mariner style stripes that makes me think of spring and breezy weather. This sweater can be worn so many ways and is another great layering piece in a spring capsule wardrobe. It also has a sophisticated and classy vibe that draws the right attention. If you live somewhere that has cooler springs, opt for a warmer fabric like wool or cashmere, and if you live where the spring weather is warmer, go with cotton or linen.
Long Sleeve Blouse
A solid neutral or subtly printed long sleeve blouse is a thoughtful addition to this capsule wardrobe. It can be worn casual or dressy and adds interest to a simple and minimalistic outfit. I recommend a cotton or linen blouse that is light and airy for spring.
Neutral T-Shirt
A neutral t-shirt (or a couple) is a staple in this capsule. Dress it up or down, and wear it over and over again all spring long. I chose to add the J.Crew cashmere t-shirt to this capsule for a more elevated option, but cotton or linen are great options too.

Knit Cardigan
Layered over a t-shirt, tank top, or dress, a knit cardigan is another wonderful layering piece for spring. I love the oversized Jenni Kayne cashmere cardigan included in the capsule, but a more affordable (and still high quality option is from Quince). You can also go for a cotton or linen cardigan if you prefer one that doesn’t give as much warmth.
Shirt Dress
In this spring capsule wardrobe I included my fave Jenni Kayne leopard t-shirt dress which has great neutral hues and a drapey lightweight fabric, but you can really choose any casual t-shirt style dress to add to your capsule. I recommend staying with neutral color tones, patterned or solid, and a style that can be dressed up or down for versatility.
White Jeans/Pants
A light ivory or white pair of jeans, utility pants, or trousers goes a long way in the spring. Dress them down with sneakers and a cardigan, or up with a sleek pair of mules and that long sleeve blouse. The light color has a fresh spring feel and can be super versatile.
Neutral Trousers/Utility Pants
Black, olive green, or khaki trousers are a great addition to the capsule for their versatility and ability to be dressed up or down. They can have a polished look with the right top, shoes, and accessories, and can take you from running errands to date night. If you prefer you can swap this item out for a nice neutral solid or patterned. midi skirt.

Vintage Wash Jeans
A staple in any capsule is a pair of lightly distressed vintage wash jeans. I’m a jeans girl through and through so when I find the perfect pair, I will wear them multiple times a week. I’m a huge fan of the Madewell Perfect Vintage Jeans (I have them in multiple washes), but Levi’s, Agolde, Everlane, are all fantastic brands to choose from as well.
Rain Boots
If you live where the spring brings a good amount of rain, a classic pair of rain boots are a must when it comes to the footwear in your capsule. I love simple, ankle height rain boots for practicality and style. Not every outfit works with knee-high rain boots, so ankle boots are much more versatile.
Sneakers
A great pair of white or ivory sneakers are a must for spring. Pair them with just about everything – jeans, trousers, t-shirt dress, etc. and be on your merry way!
Loafers
To elevate any spring outfit a pair of loafers add that bit of sophistication and class while still maintaining comfort and versatility. If you can’t justify a pricey pair of Gucci loafers like all the fashion influencers (I sure can’t, lol!), then try the polished look-alike Sam Edelman pair below.

Mules
Just like loafers, pointy mules add that extra polished appeal to any spring look. I love a classic pair of slingback black leather mules but you can also go with leopard, or another neutral tone.
Woven or Leather Tote Bag
A tote bag is a perfect, minimal, and practical addition to a spring capsule wardrobe. I love the woven look as it is versatile and brings in a warmer weather vibe. But, a simple leather tote is a wonderful option as well. Think of this as your catch-all carry everywhere bag for spring.
Crossbody Bag
A crossbody purse that can be dressed up or down is another great spring capsule staple. When I’m not running from place to place with a bag full of diapers and snacks, I opt for a smaller crossbody that can hold just the essentials. If you are able to, I recommend investing a little more in accessories to elevate moderately priced clothing items in your capsule. An investment bag goes a long way and can be worn every day of the week.
Sunglasses & Accessories
Lastly, adding in a selection of classy accessories to your spring capsule wardrobe will tie everything together. I love a great pair of sunglasses, neutral hair accessories like clips and scrunchies, and dainty gold plated jewelry. Subtle, classy pieces that are the cherry on top of every great spring outfit.
